Secret Men’s Business 120: Gary Pedler
Gary’s mate owned this Kenworth 923 R model and sold it to Gary when he had to return to Perth for family reasons.
Gary has owned the truck for a couple of years and recent retirement enabled him to bring the truck up to roadworthy spec with the help of some mates.
“It was originally a Manufacturing Bottle Company of Victoria truck and was one of the first Seattle trucks that came out to Australia as a sort of IKEA flat pack. They put them together down in Bell Street, Preston. MBC bought 10 of them. They did the run from Abbotsford carting beer up to Darwin.
“It's supposedly a 1964 model year, but there’s a bit of conjecture about that. It originally had a GM in it but it was a bit sad when my mate bought it many years ago. He swapped it out for a 250 Cummins big cam.
“Now I just have to do put the old MBC logos on the door and she should be just about done.”
