GARRY JONES: Shell Rimula Hall of Fame Inductee.
Under the guidance of his father, John Jones, Garry learned to drive in an International R195 fitted with a five-speed gearbox and three-speed "Joey" auxiliary transmission.
While completing a Fitter and Turner apprenticeship at Yallourn Power Station, Garry spent nights hauling logs between Moe and Longwarry. After qualifying, he drove a Volvo G89 for Henry Wosley before moving into timber haulage for Australian Paper Manufacturers at Maryvale. He later gained interstate experience with TNT and Inner-Motel contracts in an International S-Line.
At 23, Garry became an owner-driver, purchasing an International S-Line and establishing his own transport business. Although he hauled bricks, milk powder, steel pipe and general freight, logging remained his passion, hauling pine and native hardwood throughout Victoria and interstate.
As Jones Logging grew, Garry added a Kenworth W-model for logs, machinery and general freight. Today, the restored W-model remains a source of pride, alongside a Kenworth T950 and growing earthmoving fleet.
