From the outside it looks the same. Ditto the inside. Except for one small giveaway.
The Hino 300 Series is now Euro 6 compliant. A little late to the party some might say, but boy, worth the wait!
Meeting stricter emissions laws usually means something has to give; power, torque, often a bit of both.
Hino have kept the power the same at 150Hp, increased torque from 420 to 440Nm and improved fuel consumption as well. “2/5th’s of FA,” you may say.
Nothing could be further from the truth – it just doesn’t show on paper. Drive this truck back to back with an earlier model and you’ll be amazed how it drives. The get up and go compared to the Euro 5 is huge. Shame Mazda has registered Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, because it applies to these trucks.
Apart from seemingly turning ponies into Clydesdales, Hino have added sequential shifting to an already brilliant 6-speed full auto ‘box. That sequential shifter is the small change inside and is lightening quick, aiding steep descents and saving brakes.
Then there’s 3.5 ton (minimum) across the range, and that’s after you’ve loaded the tray or pantech.
