HINO PREVIEWS LINE-UP FOR JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW

Hino Motors, Ltd. is set to present a range of its next-generation products at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show, which will be held in Tokyo from 30th October to 9th November 2025.

On display will be the Hino Profia Z FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) which will be Japan’s first mass-produced heavy-duty commercial fuel cell vehicle when it is released on 24th October.

“It is capable of a loaded driving range of approximately 650 kilometres with fast hydrogen refuelling taking between 15 to 30 minutes,” said Daniel Petrovski, Department Manager – Product Strategy for Hino Australia said of the truck which is known as 700 Series in Australia.

The Profia Z FCV on display will be equipped with the Level 4 autonomous driving feature, which means the heavy-duty truck is capable of full driverless operation under specific conditions.

Also on the Hino stand will be the latest model of the Hino Dutro (300 Series) Z EV light-duty truck, which is scheduled for release in mid-2026.
“The ultra-low floor and walk-through layout of the Dutro Z EV have proven popular with customers since its release in June 2022, and the new model will feature larger battery capacity that will increase the distance between charges,” said Mr Petrovski.

The Dutro Z EV is currently undergoing trials in Australia to ascertain its operational suitability for the unique Australian market requirements.

Of particular interest to the Australian truck market will the first public exhibition of the updated Hino Ranger (or 500 Series) medium-duty truck at the Japan Mobility Show.

“The 500 Series Standard Cab is a proven solution in the Australian market and we look forward to the Euro 6-compliant version in Australia in mid-2026,” said Mr Petrovski.

The Hino stand will also feature Hino Team Sugawara’s Dakar Rally “Little Monster” race truck from 2019, which is based on the Hino Ranger (500 Series) medium-duty truck.

“Successfully completing 34 gruelling Dakar Rallies demonstrates the QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability) that Hino is renowned for,” said Mr Petrovski.

Another vehicle on display will be the “Poncho dot” concept vehicle which is based on the Hino Dutro Z EV – its compact size aides drivability, and its unique layout means it’s capable of transporting both people and goods together.

Outside the main exhibition hall, show-goers will also be able to see other unique applications of the Hino Dutro Z EV including a mobile office.

HINO MOTORS LAUNCHES NEW FUEL CELL HEAVY-DUTY TRUCK

Hino Motors, Ltd. has announced the release of Japan’s first mass-produced fuel cell heavy-duty truck, the Hino Profia Z FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle).

The Profia Z FCV has been jointly developed by Toyota Motor Corporation and Hino, based on Hino's heavy-duty truck, the Hino Profia (known as the 700 Series in Australia) and will be released to the Japanese market on 24 October.

The chassis is designed to maximise the operator’s load capacity while accommodating the component layout requirements of a fuel cell vehicle.

The powertrain consists of two fuel cell stacks from Toyota's MIRAI fuel cell vehicle and has been customised for heavy-duty commercial vehicle use.

It also incorporates technology and driving control from Hino heavy-duty and electric vehicles.

The hydrogen refuelling takes between 15 and 30 minutes and the driving range for a loaded vehicle is approximately 650 kilometres.

The Profia Z FCV will be launched following the successful final stage of trials which involved multiple vehicles embedded in customer operations.

“Globally, Hino is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality – in Japan, the entire domestic freight fleet accounts for 60% of CO2 emissions, and heavy-duty vehicles are a significant contributor to this,” said Richard Emery, Hino Australia President and CEO.

“As we move towards carbon neutrality, it is important to adopt a ‘multi-pathway’ approach to ensure we have the most suitable powertrains for the various applications,” said Mr Emery.

“Fuel cell vehicles, which generate electricity from hydrogen, are well-suited to heavy-duty trucks in long-distance transport operations, as they provide the necessary cruising range, payload capacity, and fast refuelling.

“This is an exciting global development for Hino - in Australia, Hino has led the way  with the light-duty 300 Series Hybrid Electric for over 18 years, and we are currently evaluating the suitability of multiple low and zero emission solutions, from the Hino Dutro Z EV (300 Series) battery electric vehicle which is undergoing Australian market operational evaluation to the heavy-duty Profia (700 Series) Hybrid.

“The Hino Profia Z FCV is yet another innovative Hino solution that Hino Australia will consider for the Australian market,” concluded Mr Emery.

HINO EXPANDS ITS RANGE OF HEAVY-DUTY MODELS

Hino Australia has announced a significant expansion to its range of Euro 6-compliant heavy-duty 700 Series vehicles.

“Launched in 2021, the 700 Series range now offers a solution for almost any heavy-duty application with eleven additional models on sale from October 2025,” said Daniel Petrovski, Manager of Product Strategy for Hino Australia.

“The expanded range increases our exclusively two-pedal range with a host of axle and wheelbase configurations appealing to even more customer applications and operating requirements,” he continued.

The expanded range includes FH1836 4x2, FS2636 6x4 and FY3036 8x4 models which are all powered by the renowned Hino A09C engine in A09C-VN specification with its peak power of 360hp (265kW) and 1569Nm of torque delivered from 1,100 – 1,600rpm.

The A09C-VN engine is mated to the new Hino M112 12-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), designed and manufactured under the Hino guiding principles of Quality, Durability and Reliability (QDR).

“With its wide gear ratio and selection spread, the two-pedal 12-speed AMT will be an excellent choice for heavy rigid operations in extra urban and regional applications,” said Petrovski. “It will also appeal to rigid truck operators who need to tow a trailer and to customers seeking a fuel-efficient high performance rigid truck solution for highway and hilly operations.

“With the addition of the new AMT models, Hino will now offer multiple two-pedal options for our 300-plus horsepower heavy-duty customers with Allison 4440 and Allison 3200 true automatic transmissions, plus the Hino M112 and ZF Traxon AMT variations.”

Customer options are further multiplied with the availability of either leaf spring or airbag drive axle suspensions as well as multiple wheelbases to suit a variety of bodies and applications.

The nine litre models are joined by two FS2845 models featuring the E13C 13 litre engine which produces 450hp (331kW) and 2157Nm of torque and is mated to the new M112 Hino 12-speed AMT.

“The FS2845 is available with an airbag or leaf spring drive axle and will fill a gap in the market for council tippers and/or civil works customers that require regular towing of a pig or dog trailer,” continued Dan Petrovski.

Hino will also offer a new FS2848 12-speed AMT airbag suspension model that will suit fleet operators looking for a single trailer prime mover.

Both the A09C & E13C engines meet Euro 6 exhaust emissions compliance, using a combination of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and the ever-reliable Hino Diesel Particulate Active Reduction Filter (DPR).

“The current 700 Series was launched in 2021 with Euro 6 emissions compliance, well ahead of when it was even legislated in Australia.”
