Volvo Trucks Australia unveils new low-horsepower 13 litre engine range.

A new range of horsepower ratings for Volvo’s popular Euro 6 13-litre engine platform has been announced for the brand’s versatile FM workhorse.

Ranging from 380hp/1850Nm to 420hp/2100Nm as well as a 460hp/2300Nm variant, the new range is intended to provide robust and efficient powertrain options across a range of transport applications. The arrival of the low horsepower range introduces increased torque across a broader, lower rpm torque band. Peak torque starts at 905Nm and stretches to 1400Nm across the three new variants. The new engine variants also feature improved engine brake performance with power braking power increased 70Kw over comparable 11-litre variants.

“This new offering is designed to support FM customers with potential gains in efficiency and performance for lightweight and rigid applications,” says Tom Chapman, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Volvo Trucks Australia.”

“We remain committed to delivering value to our customers with features such as extended oil drain intervals, more torque and more powerful engine braking. We’re confident that the Volvo FM will continue to offer a compelling option for Australian transport operators.” The Volvo FM can operate at a GCM of up to 90 tons and is available with six different cab variants, ranging from day cab (low and high), to sleeper (low and high), Globetrotter and crew cab.
