IVECO launches new medium-duty Eurocargo range

The new generation IVECO Eurocargo is now available in Australia, offering more active safety features, Telematics, driver comfort appointments and driving aids, along with enhanced drivelines to boost operator productivity.

The latest range is available in five main models – ML140, ML160 and ML180 – plus the ML150 4x4 and ML150 4x2 dual cab variant, which offers seating for seven including the driver. IVECO is also offering a ‘Tipper Pack’ option for the ML140, which introduces a 4185mm wheelbase, increased GCM of 22t, front and rear reinforced parabolic suspension, rear differential lock and ‘easy clean’ cab trim – all features that lend themselves to tipping applications.

The 4x2 range is available in two transmissions and three cabin options plus a variety of wheelbase choices. GVMs are 14, 15, 16 and 18t with GCMs ranging from 17.5t and 28t depending on the model and transmission specified, providing added productivity for owners who require extra payload for freight, materials or equipment.

REVISED TECTOR 7 ENGINES

As standard, the new trucks feature more powerful versions of the ‘Tector 7’ engines, which were only offered as an option on the earlier models. These advanced 6-cylinder engines use high pressure common rail fuel injection and 24 valves, and produce 207kW (280hp) and 1,000Nm of torque in the ML140 variant and 235kW (320hp) and 1,100Nm of torque in ML 150, ML160 and ML180 models. In all cases the engines meet Euro6 (Step E) emission requirements using HI-SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction).

Matched to the engines in the 4x2 range is a choice of either the standard ZF 8-Speed automatic or optional Allison 6-speed automatic for high torque/low speed applications. Power is fed to the rear wheels via Meritor axles with standard cross locks on ML150 (4x2) Dual Cab, ML160 and ML180 models and optional on the ML140.

Front suspension on all 4x2 models (aside from Tipper Spec) is parabolic spring with dual action hydraulic shock absorbers and stabiliser bar, and at the rear the ML140 features a two-bellow airbag set-up with dual action shock absorbers, while the ML150 Dual Cab, ML160 and ML180 are equipped with a four-bellow configuration, ensuring a supple ride for the driver and sensitive freight.

FUEL SAVING TECHNOLOGIES

The latest generation Eurocargo introduces many of the fuel saving technologies available in the S-Way heavy duty range, helping to reduce running costs and total cost of ownership.

Along with a new engine idle cut off system that automatically switches off the engine after five minutes running at idle if certain conditions are met, new models equipped with the ZF transmissions feature ‘Eco Roll’. This feature is designed to exploit the inertia of the vehicle to minimise fuel use – when certain driving conditions are met, Eco Roll shifts the driveline to neutral, minimising the vehicle’s drag torque and letting the truck roll.

A separate ‘Eco Mode’ system, which is available with both automatic transmissions, adjusts the vehicle’s power delivery and transmission shifts to an optimised fuel saving setting for improved efficiency and reduced emissions.

MORE SAFETY EQUIPMENT

The new Eurocargo has taken a considerable leap forward when it comes to active and passive safety as well, with standard features including Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Hill Holder, Blind Spot Information System (BSIS), Reversing System (REV) including camera, Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) – where the tail lights pulse under heavy braking – Driver Drowsiness and Alert Warning (DDAW) and Moving Off Information System (MOIS). AEBS, ESP and ACC are not available in the 4x4 model.

DDAW monitors both driving style (steering correction) and vehicle position inside the lane when the vehicle is travelling above 55 km/h and on a straight road, giving audible and visual warnings should the system identify drowsiness.

MOIS is particularly useful in urban and metropolitan environments with high traffic and pedestrian activity, and provides the driver visual and audible information about the proximity of vulnerable road users. These are displayed within three detection zones in a ‘bird’s eye’ vehicle view.

BSIS monitors the side of the truck and front side, warning the driver of vulnerable road users in proximity, who might be endangered during a turning manoeuvre to the passenger side.

Other standard features include ECE R29-compliant cabin, the superior stopping power of vented disc brakes all round with ABS and ESP (ESP available on 4x2 only), LED Day Time Running Lamps and LED tail lights. A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is also available as an option.

STRIKING LOOKS – inside and out

The new Eurocargo’s revised cabin exterior draws inspiration from the IVECO family look, with strong styling cues taken from S-Way and T-Way products. Front and centre are a revised front face highlighted by more prominent and contemporary IVECO badging, swept grille and new front bumper sensors.

Inside, the enhancements are also prominent.

Immediately apparent upon entering the cabin of the latest range is the new steering wheel, 10” configurable digital instrument cluster and controls. The new steering wheel features more user-friendly integrated controls including ‘start/stop’ button and electric proximity key. Additionally, the wheel provides a soft touch finish as standard, or it can be selected in leather as a cost option. Complementing the wheel’s flat bottom design is a revised steering column that offers greater adjustability and easier ingress and egress to the cabin. Gear selection for the transmission is now also action via convenient steering column-mounted stalks.

Seating across the range comes courtesy of a fully adjustable ISRI air suspended seat with an optional ‘Hi-Comfort’ ISRI seat featuring belt height adjustment, backrest/shoulder adjustment and Ventilation Climate Control also available.

Also new to the Eurocargo is a 7” multimedia system with Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and readiness for ‘IVECO On’ telematics.

IVECO On telematics – fully connected trucks

Previously only available in S-Way and ACCO models, IVECO On telematics uses data collected by the Eurocargo’s on-board telematics box to evaluate driving style and generale regular reports for owners and fleet managers to reduce operating costs and improve safety. The reports include detailed fuel consumption and driving style data, allowing changes to be made to improve fuel efficiency. The system can also provide live tips to further promote frugal driving on-route.

Boosting safety is another key benefit of IVECO On, with the system monitoring and providing alerts on things such as harsh braking and acceleration, and more. Detailed reports can be downloaded for further analysis and consultation to cover any areas of concern.

IVECO On can also assist to minimise fleet down-time by taking a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and vehicle monitoring services. The program provides detailed insights into vehicle operating data including odometer readings, scheduled maintenance reporting, and instrument cluster light alerts covering battery voltage level and engine coolant, engine oil and transmission fluid status.

Remote assistance servicing with remote diagnostics, teleservices and over-the-air software updates are further features of the system, which are available through the IVECO Customer Uptime Centre.

Tough ML150 4X4

A favourite for demanding emergency service work and mining, exploration and forestry applications, the ML150 4x4 has also been upgraded as part of the new model roll out and features many of the enhancements of its 4x2 stablemates.

Powering the model is the same Tector 7 engine used in the ML160 and ML 180 producing 235kW (320hp) and 1,100Nm. In the case of the 4x4, it’s matched to a 6-Speed manual. Emission control is also through Selective Catalytic Reduction.

With a GVM of 15t and GCM of 19t and wheelbase choices of 3915 and 4150mm, the ML150 4x4 is the ideal medium duty truck for extreme off road conditions. The model features front, centre and rear differential locks for superior traction on slippery, muddy surfaces as well as parabolic three-leaf front suspension and parabolic (two plus two) rear leaf suspension providing excellent articulation over undulating terrain. Also assisting off road is a generous 26° approach angle and 28° ramp angle, while a steel bumper provides additional protection over extreme terrain.

While the ML150 4x4 is supremely equipped to handle extreme conditions when the bitumen ends, that doesn’t mean drivers go without high level comfort, safety and convenient features. In fact the ML150 4x4 is equipped with the same safety equipment and cabin appointments as its 4x2 counterparts, so long days inside the cabin are made easier and less fatiguing.

Comments from IVECO Trucks Australia Managing Director, Glen Dyer:

The new Eurocargo offers higher levels of comfort, safety and lower emissions, benefits that are underrepresented in the medium duty truck market.

Eurocargo provides a perfect blend of productivity and low total cost of ownership, matched with the cabin amenities and appointments that drivers who spend long hours behind the wheel will appreciate.

It’s these characteristics that continually see Eurocargo top the sales charts in Europe, and we believe the latest generation trucks will strike a chord with Australian and New Zealand buyers.

IVECO’s new Eurocargo range is on sale now and backed by warranties of 5-Years / 300,000km (whichever comes first) for all variants. IVECO also offer extended warranties of up to 5-Years / 600,000km at additional cost, along with maintenance and repair agreements, allowing owners to better manage maintenance costs.
