Truckies Against Bullying

Truckies around the country have long been known to support charitable causes of all types in droves. Saturday, November 4 was no different when Andrew Lattin and his wife of two weeks, Sandra put out the call for truckies to come to the Bendigo Showgrounds and show support for their brainchild, Truckies Against Bullying.

The idea to stage the event began in June when the couple talked of their children’s experiences.

“My son was getting bullied to the point where we had to take him out of school. He’s now in TAFE. Our daughter who's 14 hasn't been to school all year because of a bully. It started in June when I put a call out to truckies for our son to climb over their trucks and have a look at everything. We had 18, 19 trucks that were ready and willing, but the poor kid came down with glandular fever. So unfortunately we had to cancel.

“Then we thought, hey, we’re part of a huge trucking community. Let’s make some noise and organise something bigger. This would be a double first – as in a show dedicated to truckies against bullying, and also the first truck show to be held in Bendigo.”
