Secret Men’s Business 98: Brian Jennison
What do you do when you buy an old W-model Kenworth but are not entirely happy with its motive power – in this case a 350 Cummins?
As it happens you also have a Detroit 12V71 twin turbo just ‘lying around’.
I mean, it’s a no-brainer to put that under the bonnet isn’t it? And while you’re at it you may as well swap out the original 15 speed Road Ranger for 18 cogs.
““The motor was just sitting in the shed and every single expert in the country said I’d never get it in without moving the cab or cutting the firewall,” said Brain. “Well, it is in there without anything cut. Nothing is touched, original radiator just re-cored, sitting in the same spot, original bonnet mounts and cabin mounts. I just made it all fit. And it worked.”
AND THE SOUND!
Brian brought the W-model to Casino recently - not to win any prizes, but to just enjoy the show. Forgetting to book accommodation, he brought along his own bed in the form of an Atkinson sitting on the trailer.
“Not a swag type of guy,” he quipped. “And with the W being a day cab, the old Atkinson fit the bill.”
Both trucks are classics. Like many others, Brian is keeping the history of trucking in Australia alive, and in the case of the W-model, he’s doing it with a big twist (of Torque).
